With new movies comes new dinner specials here at Nitehawk, and our chefs let us take a look into what they’ve whipped up for this week’s movies.
We Need to Talk About Kevin
Savory Tomato Cobbler
Told primarily through flashbacks, We Need to Talk About Kevin dwells on the trauma that a mother, Eva (Tilda Swinton), experiences after her son’s dark nature finally manifests itself in a violent killing spree. Vibrant reds dominate the film, from the paint splattered on Eva’s house by her vengeful neighbors to the crushed tomatoes she swims through early on in the film. Inspired by the palate, our kitchen put together a savory tomato cobbler, a blend of cherry tomatoes, onions and blood orange that’s topped with a gruyere biscuit and baked until golden. [I suggested the special be We Need to Talk About Chicken Kiev, to which our chef simply responded by patting me on the head and walking away. – ed]
Better Than Something: Jay Reatard
Apple Pie Bun with American Cheese
To celebrate the new documentary Better Than Something, which follows the life and legacy of the late punk musician Jay Reatard, Nitehawk’s kithen put together a twist on the musician’s favorite desert: apple pie with a slice of American cheese. Mixing cheese directly in with the apple filling, these buns are served warm, and dusted with powdered sugar and a drizzle of caramel.
