Happy September, Nitehawk peoples. We’ve got a lot to get through this week, so let’s jump right in.
Sleepwalk With Me
We have a new movie! We have a new movie! Rejoice! Theater 1 is now occupied by Sleepwalk With Me, comedian Mike Birbiglia’s autobiographical tale about the stresses of his flagging relationship and career manifesting into a rather nasty sleepwalking habit. While Birbiglia wrote, directed and stars in Sleepwalk With Me, most know him for his stand-up specials or his appearances on This American Life (Ira Glass produced the film) or The Moth. If you haven’t seen Birbiglia in action before, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Tickets.
The ultimate frat house fracas, the John Landis directed, Harold Ramis penned Animal House hits the screen this week Friday and Saturday at midnight. Come out and root for the slobs as they go after that pesky dean and… kill a horse in the process. Tickets.
As part of our LIVE + SOUND + CINEMA series, we’ll be screening French nature doc Microcosmos along with a live performance from Brooklyn ambient group Long Distance Poison. Tickets.
Rappin’ Rodney Brunch
We continue our Home Room brunch series with the endlessly quotable and enjoyable Back to School. Join Thornton Melon as he shows his son a thing or two about higher education, throwing killer Oingo Boingo parties and stylin’ on the high dive. Tickets.
From Airplane last week to some Canadian kids from the 90s, it’s Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy–the comedy troupe’s first trip on the big screen is a little less weird than the TV show, but contains my single favorite scene in any movie ever. Did you give the gun a good cleaning? Good boy. Monday night in the cafe, tape starts rolling at 8.
This Saturday we’re classing up the joint with our new series of Foreign Film Brunch series. This weekend we’re kicking things off with Jean-Luc Godard’s Pierrot le Fou. Film starts at 12:30.
On Wednesday things get interesting in the cafe as we’re introducing our new drinking game series Screen Shots. For our first game, we’ll be drinking along to The Big Lebowski, taking sips whenever Walter freaks out, Donny bowls a strike or you see The Dude abiding. Game sheets will be provided night of, and, yes, we’ll be offering a special on White Russians at the bar. Starts at 7:30pm.
