It’s Sprang Breaaaak at Nitehawk this weekend as we open Harmony Korine’s endlessly buzzy Spring Breakers (Tickets) in two of our theaters. Tonight (Friday, March 22) is mostly sold out already, but there are still plenty of tickets for this weekend. We are also screening Park Chan-Wook’s beautiful and twisted Stoker (Tickets). This also marks the end of our million year engagement with Silver Linings Playbook, which if you haven’t seen yet, I mean, I don’t know what to tell you–you’ve had since Thanksgiving.
Food & Drink
Our food and drink special for Spring Breakers is Fried Chicken, Cornrows and Grills — fried chicken and grilled corn on the cob. Match that up with the classiest of Spring Break cocktails: Sex on the Beach. SPRING BREAK BITCHES *fires gun into the air*
Loud Movies and Music Late at Night
We have two Live Sound Cinema events for our Midnights this weekend, both from Morricone Youth. First, on Friday, the band will be providing the score for Tod Browning’s Freaks (Tickets), and then on Saturday Morricone Youth will be back for Jean Rollin’s Fascination (Tickets), which will be the third time we’ve had the band score Jean Rollin’s naked lady vampire opus.
Also for Midnight this week, we’ve added a midnight screening of Spring Breakers (Tickets).
Brunches of Fire
For Brunch this week, we have the newly restored 35mm print of the 1927 version of Chicago (Tickets) which will have a live score from Guizot. Also at noon this weekend we have Walter Hill’s fun and catchy action musical comedy drama (yes, all of those things) Streets of Fire (Tickets), about a mercenary who goes on a quest to save his pop-star ex-girlfriend from a band of rapacious bikers led by Willem Dafoe’s insane haircut. Incidentally, though we originally had it marked for 35mm, the print we received didn’t reach our standards, so now we will be screening the film in crispy DCP.
Sunday, March 24, 9pm | The Walking Dead. As always, we’ll be screening the latter half of AMC’s The Walking Dead as it airs.
Monday, March 25, 10pm | Simpsons Club. We come close to the end of Season 2 of The Simpsons this week with Marge taking up painting and watch maybe one of the best early episodes “Lisa’s Substitute.”
Tuesday, March 26, 8pm | Projections: Local Filmmakers with Teddy. Local filmmakers show their stuff.
Wednesday, March 27, 9pm | Titmouse 5 Second Animated Shorts. 5 Second Day is a Titmouse tradition, created by owners Shannon and Chris Prynoski, that gives their animators the chance to bring to life the strange/beautiful/disturbing/funny ideas that live in their brains. For the first time ever, they are screening these masterpieces to our friends neighbors and fans.
