The music in the Coen Brothers’ O Brother Where Art Thou? (Tickets) is 9/10ths of the reason the movie remains such an enduring favorite. The soundtrack started quite the bluegrass boom upon its release to the point where it seemed like everyone had a copy — it also helped that the movie’s pretty damn good too.
For our Country Brunchin’ screening of the film, which will feature an in-theater set before the show from Brooklyn Bluegrass group The Birdhive Boys, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite bluegrass, blues, and gospel songs to get us in the spirit. Includes tracks from the O Brother soundtrack, as well songs from The Seldom Scene, Bill Monroe, Tim O’Brien, Odetta, Leadbelly, Carolina Chocolate Drops and many more.
Have a mandolin kind of afternoon. It’s nice.
Note: You do need a Spotify account to access the playlist, but it’s free with commercials, and that’s not so bad, is it?
