How Drunk Can You Get: You can drink away the trauma of watching Elijah Wood scalp women for a party in the bar after the film.
What’s the Deal with This Movie Anyway?: A remake of William Lustig’s chilly, violent cult classic, this version of Maniac is helmed by a pair of French filmmakers who have already made quite the mark on violent horror cinema: Franck Khalfoun, who directed the parking garage thriller P2; and Alexandre Aja who brought us High Tension, the surprisingly good Hills Have Eyes remake, and Piranha 3D, the greatest film ever made. Elijah Wood is this film’s maniac, a mannequin store owner named Frank with who struggles with violent psycho-sexual impulses. As he attempts a normal relationship with a woman, Frank’s obsessive wild side begins seeping more and more to the surface as he begins scalping, stabbing and slashing his way through dark L.A. streets.
