Luis Buñuel’s surrealist sado-masochistic classic Belle De Jour details the sexual journey of Séverine (Catherine Deneuve) as a frigid young housewife turned part-time prostitute. Her unexpected sexual exploration goes from her unconscious, she dreams of being dominated, to a double life sleeping with strangers in a French brothel. But despite her proclivity for kinky sex, she is still unable to sleep with her own husband. Bunuel weaves together the surreal and the beautifully to create a lush portrait of desire and pleasure. And as always, he tackles social morals and class divisions at the same time.

Belle De Jour is the debut film of the 2016 Nitehawk Naughties OOH LA LA series on erotic French films that screens this June – September.

unnamedThe 2016 NITEHAWK NAUGHTIES is in partnership with Babeland. Claire Cavanah and Rachel Venning opened the first Babeland store in 1993 in response to the lack of women-friendly sex shops in Seattle. The store offered top quality products, a pleasant place to shop, and most of all information and encouragement to women who wanted to explore their sexuality. The store’s popularity with both women and men has led to three more stores in New York, plus a thriving and educational website.
