Take a wildly surrealist journey into the future with Terry Gilliam’s cult classic, Brazil.
Imagine if George Orwell’s book Nineteen Eighty-Four was set in a dystopic totalitarian future but without all the efficiency and way more of hallucination; that’s Terry Gilliam’s Brazil. A dark fantasy with good humor thrown in, the state of mind that is Brazil includes everything from unrequited love to terrorist bombing to facelifts to poorly operating machines. The story all centers around Sam Lowry, a low level governmental employee, who has a very active imagination. That alone is a problem but what really gets him into trouble is when he tries to rectify the wrongful arrest of Harry Buttle, the bureaucratic government fingers him for the terrorist attacks!
Brazil is part of THE WORKS – TERRY GILLIAM program.
