The big one is coming to Nitehawk…EARTHQUAKE on 35mm!
Inspired by the real-life earthquake that rocked San Fernando in 1971 with a 6.6 on the Richter scale, Earthquake shows the shocks and shakes as the big one hits Los Angeles. But it’s not just the quake that’s rocking the city! Various personal dramas in this ensemble movie unfold before, during, and after Los Angeles is reduced to ruins. At the center of it is philandering architect Stuart Graff (Charles Heston), his jealous wife (Ava Gardner), his mistress, daughter, father-in-law and more! A “a feast of feats of destruction,” Earthquake hit at the end of the disaster phase in the early 1970s, was nominated for Academy Awards, and even became Universal’s log running themepark attraction. Disaster goes iconic!
