Saved from electroshock therapy, Dorothy Gail returns to an Oz she barely recognizes.
If you’re like us and saw Return to Oz when it came out, you probably haven’t been able to forget it. That’s because this sequel to The Wizard of Oz is certainly an adventure fantasy journey into bleakness. There’s no song and dance here! Starting off in a mental institution because dear Dorothy can’t get the Emerald City out of her head, the film ends up back in a barely recognizable land of Oz. Things have certainly changed from her last visit as an evil witch and the Gnome King have destroyed all of Oz’s greatness: no yellow brick road and no more Wizard! With the old gang essentially imprisoned, she imparts new friends like Billina the chicken, the robot Tik Tok, and Jack the Pumpkinhead, to save the beloved City from permanent doom. All we can say is, beware the Wheelers!
