Anime After Dark returns for its seventh year of midnite mayhem at Nitehawk Williamsburg, featuring five films that lean heavy into the weird and the wild while bumping a mean soundtrack to boot.
A trio of punks start a noise band on a whim in slacker comedy ON-GAKU: OUR SOUND; the friendship between a boy and a robot girl triggers the downfall of an empire in Rintaro’s METROPOLIS (35mm); the work of five anime legends comes together in Studio 4°C’s anthology oddity GENIUS PARTY; a psychologist turns dream-surfing super hero in Satoshi Kon’s masterful PAPRIKA (35mm); and the fists fly in the pop masterpiece – and rarely screened – STREET FIGHTER II: THE ANIMATED MOVIE.
