NITEHAWK NAUGHTIES BODY POLITICS Sex, politics, and humor in Italian cinema (1964-1980) Presented with our partner, Babeland. Each screening will feature a different Italian spirit or cocktail with Gruppo Campari.
Nitehawk Naughties’ Body Politics program presents a corporeal selection of Italian films (1964-1980) that position sexuality in terms of politics. These films address changing gender roles and challenge bourgeois ideology of this time period with provocative stories where strong women play a central role. Body Politics features five films by iconic Italian filmmakers who uniquely combined sex and power on the big screen: Vittorio de Sica’s Marriage Italian Style, Pier Paolo Pasolini’s The Decameron, Fernando Di Leo’s To Be Twenty, Sergio Martino’s Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key, and Federico Fellini’s The City of Women.
For the past three years, Nitehawk Naughties have explored the American porn boom in the early 1970s, the erotic Scandinavian films that influenced them, and a selection of French films that inherently have a sexy je ne sais quoi.
