Mirror Mirror

Starring: Rainbow Harvest, Karen Black

Before THE CRAFT, there was MIRROR MIRROR. Co-written by sisters Annette and Gina Cascone and directed by Marina Sargenti, the film follows high school goth Megan (Rainbow Harvest, a dead ringer for Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz character in BEETLEJUICE) as she deals with typical teenage stuff: crushes, bullies, and a haunted mirror that grants her supernatural powers. MIRROR MIRROR combines YA vibes straight out of a Christopher Pike novel with plenty of R-rated thrills. But the film’s most notable—and enjoyable—aspect is its nuanced portrayal of relationships between women, which was rare for the horror genre in 1990. –AGFA

Screening before MIRROR MIRROR:
MICRO-SHORT, written and directed by Beth Fletcher (6 min)
A woman hypnotized by her microwave finds out how far she’ll go to satiate its hunger.

Anime After Dark: Secret Screening

Anime After Dark’s going full goth this Halloween season with a lean and mean pursuit flick loaded with monsters, misshapen castles and epic splashes of graphic violence. Beautifully rendered by one of our favorite animation studios and directed by an Anime After Dark mainstay, the film could be summed up with a single letter, one that leaves even the fiercest creatures of the night shook. You know it. You’ve heard it whispered in the wind.

Still stumped? Here’s help:

Based on the third novel of a long running horror series by an Anime After Dark hall of famer, this is the third film we’ve played based on his work.

Produced in Japan for the American market, opening on twelve screens in the U.S. Its English language version is considered the original.

Our second feature in a row from this animation studio. This is our ninth time playing their work on the big screen.

Much of the plot centers on escaping to a paradise in outer space. Curveball.
