Action Jackson

Starring: Carl Weathers, Craig T. Nelson, Vanity, Sharon Stone, Tom Wilson, Bill Duke

There are some things you can count on when a stunt coordinator turns to directing: plenty of people smashing through windows, lots of fire, people on fire smashing through windows. Fresh off his gig on Predator, Craig R. Baxley put erstwhile sidekick Carl Weathers front and center as the titular Jackson, and delivers the wild and wonderful goods of glass and flames, plus absolutely insane stunts with cars. With other legends on board including Prince protege Vanity as co-star and Herbie Hancock providing the soundtrack, Action Jackson should be a glorious big screen ride, complete with rude humor and nonsensical plot.

Times Square

Starring: Trini Alvarado, Robin Johnson, Tim Curry, Peter Coffield

Co-presented by The Deuce Film Series. Followed by an after party in our Trees Lounge bar, with a DJ set by Deuce Maestro Jeff, complete with a raffle giveaway!

If there was one movie you could go back in time and show your teenage self, it would be Times Square.

Meeting in the psych ward of a hospital, Pamela (Trini Alvarado) and Nicky (Robin Johnson) are instantly drawn to each other. Nicky’s playful defiance captivates Pamela, who herself has always played nice, fulfilling the expectations of her politician father. The two escape into an abandoned warehouse and proceed to create their own movement – The Sleez Sisters, trash bag-clad miscreants who throw TV sets off of rooftops. They capture the attention of DJ Johnny LaGuardia (Tim Curry), who broadcasts their acts of rebellion and punk-tinged music.

Inspired by the diary of a teen girl, Times Square is unique in its depiction of young women making the city their own while also serving as a snapshot of late 70s / early 80s Manhattan.

Bringing Out the Dead

Before Pierce falls off the edge, he still has a hope when he forms a friendship with a victim’s daughter (Patricia Arquette).

A tragic accident leaves them facing a zero tolerance policy for crime: either you’ll be executed, or, if you’re rich enough to afford it, you can watch yourself die instead.
