“Who’d have thought a Public Access could be so prescient… I did like it a lot!” – Amy Taubin, Village Voice

The Scott and Gary Show! was a pioneering NYC based public-access cable TV variety show that aired from 1983 to 1989. Paying a 1980’s homage to 1960’s TV dance parties, the show was a mix of alternative, punk, roots and indie bands performing live. The show was co-produced and hosted by Scott Lewis and directed by Gary Winter who also self-syndicated the show across the country.

Among a notable lineup of musical guests were the Butthole Surfers, the Beastie Boys, The Ben Vaughn Combo, Half Japanese, Shockabilly, R. Stevie Moore, The Velvet Monkeys, The Raunch Hands, etc.

The show has been included in the Museum of The Moving Image exhibition TV Party: A Panorama of Public Access Television in NYC; the Museum of the City of New York exhibition New York, New Music 1980-1986 and is part of New York University’s Fales Library Special Collections. A Tribute to the Scott and Gary Show by filmmaker Jeff Krulik (Heavy Metal Parking Lot) screened at film festivals nationwide.

The Scott and Gary Show! has left a lasting legacy and influence, and is remembered for its contribution to the music and public-access television scenes of the 1980s.
