Starring: David Byrne, Swoosie Kurtz, John Goodman, Spalding Gray

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of David Bryne’s idiosyncratic and hilarious True Stories with a 35mm screening, presented by Night Owl Video’s Video Store Gems series!

True Stories is a lot of things. A rumination on wild, wild small town life; a celebration of the little things that are so beautiful in people like us; a searing investigation into the puzzlin’ evidence that we see all around us; an instructional manual on modern dating; and most important of all, a wonderfully funny musical that could only come from Talking Head’s frontman David Byrne. Casting himself as tour guide through the town of Virgil, Texas, Bryne introduces us to a variety of bizarrely touching characters played by an all-star cast including John Goodman, Spalding Gray and Swoosie Kurtz.

Featuring a soundtrack of great Talking Head’s tunes such as “Wild, Wild Life”, “Love for Sale” and “Radio Head”, True Stories was under promoted and largely ignored upon its original theatrical release in 1986. After finding an audience on home video and a celebrated reissue by The Criterion Collection in 2018, the film has rightfully taken its place in the 80s cult classic hall of fame. Night Owl Video is proud to present this true Video Store Gem, and we hope you’ll join us for a Wild, Wild Time.
