Join Nitehawk and Alan Cumming to climb aboard the double decker Spice Bus for a madcap musical adventure with the sexy phenomenons of pop. Spice World is a lighthearted comedy showing fictional events leading up to the group’s major concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall, liberally interspersed with dream sequences and flashbacks as well as surreal moments and humorous asides. Our special guest Alan Cumming (currently starring on Broadway’s Caberet and CBS’ The Good Wife) stars as Piers Cuthbertson-Smyth, the filmmaker who stalks the girls along with his crew in the hopes of using them as documentary subjects. Kurt Russell plays a carpenter who seeks revenge on a rich lady with amnesia in the romantic comedy cult classic OVERBOARD.
The rich, mean and beautiful heiress Joanna Stayton (played to comedic perfection by Goldie Hawn) treats all those she deems beneath her with real cruelty; this includes the handsome carpenter Dean Proffitt (played by Kurt Russell) who has been hired to build a new closet on her yacht and whom she refuses to pay after a disagreement. But things take a turn when Joanna falls overboard and is fished out of the sea by Dean. Plotting his revenge, he takes advantage of her amnesia to make her believe that she’s his wife who takes care of the cleans and takes care of the house! While Joanna’s memory eventually returns, the life lesson she learns is ever-lasting.

The Baby is arguably one of the most bizarre psychological horror movies ever produced and it’s a devilish delight to play a voyeur unto the madness. In addition to the main narrative premise revolving around a grown-up man-baby (and that’s enough!), there’s a bad ass mother, the molesting babysitter, incest, canned baby screams/laughter, tremendously bad hair, a swinging party, and duplicitous murder…essentially you have one hell of story on your hands. Laughing at this outlandishness while being completely in awe is part of The Baby’s irresistible charms. Bizarre from its very first moment, it descends into utter insanity with a twist ending that amps up the WTF factor exponentially. It’s camp without the pomp, horror without the gore, a bad movie gone awfully good.

Llyn Foulkes One Man Band is a feature documentary that follows the Los Angeles-based painter and musician, Llyn Foulkes, from age 70 – 77 as he struggles to be acknowledged for his achievements. During the seven years chronicled in the film, Foulkes creates, destroys, and recreates a pair of large scale, three-dimensional paintings (one that costs him his marriage) all the while trying to keep a toehold on the art market. With commentary from Dennis Hopper and George Herms, it’s revealed how Foulkes has avoided “selling his soul”, setting the tone for the next fifty years of his uncompromising, up-and-down career and the international art world that is at last discovering him at the age of 77.

Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella takes a leap of faith in building a baseball field on his Iowa corn farm when he hears a voice tell him, “If you build it, he will come.” When the field produces the ghosts of seven of the Chicago White Sox players who were banned from baseball for throwing the 1919 World Series, including Shoeless Joe Jackson, it brings a golden past into the present. But this heaven on Earth doesn’t stop the voices for Ray so he seeks out to find the meaning of these messages and the true purpose of his baseball field. Similar to other films in the baseball theme, Field of Dreams shows how the seemingly impossible can become incredibly true.

Knowledge is power in an alien world of Fantastic Planet (aka La Planète sauvage) where the oppressed Oms/humans rebel from their overseers, the Triages. With visuals consisting of stop-motion cut-out courtesy of artist and writer Roland Topor, it’s not surprising that this film is noted for its surrealist imagery. In fact, it’s Fantastic Planet’s bizarre aesthetics and an intricate sex scene make this animated feature most memorable.
