As important to independent horror as icons like Roger Corman and Lloyd Kaufman, Charles Band has an extensive resume that warrants adoration and appreciation. Revolutionizing the home video market in the ’80s, his Full Moon Features imprint cranked out a surplus of low-budget but high-enjoyment titles including the PUPPET MASTER and SUBSPECIES franchise series; additionally, Band produced classics like FROM BEYOND and RE-ANIMATOR and played a not-insignificant role in the discovery of John Carpenter. All of this, and plenty more, is put under the spotlight in Brooklyn Horror alum documentarian Sarah Appleton’s (THE J-HORROR VIRUS) entertaining and comprehensive FULL MOON RISING, the definitive Charles Band and Full Moon doc including insights from Band himself and colleagues like Dennis Paoli and the aforementioned John Carpenter. —Matt Barone
