Over 30 years ago, a street hustler in New Orleans was murdered on Bourbon Street. Fast forward to the present day (present-day circa 1976, that is): A young law student, Ike (Glynn Turman), living in the Crescent City willingly goes under hypnosis, which unfortunately leads to the long-dead hustler’s spirit inhabiting Ike’s body and using his new physical surrogate to get his long-overdue revenge. One of the stronger horror films to come out the ’70s Blaxploitation cinema wave, J.D.’S REVENGE is livewire possession film that balances scares with wild, all-in performances, particularly from Thurman and co-star Louis Gossett Jr. —Matt Barone
