Join The Deuce for a delectable feast that celebrates the Fall… of Man!! We’re talking turkey when we tell you: Patriarchy pisses its pants in a tremble when faced with THE DEVONSVILLE TERROR!! An American-heritage horror “herstory” hootenanny that makes minced-meat of male femme-fear hysteria and the malaise of generational lady-hatin’… Curses! Conspiracies! Uninvited violin playing!! A plethora of perplexing terrors to give thanks for!

A Salem-y styled 1683 “witch trial” condemns three women to horrors worse than mere death – and possibly seals the fate of any future for the bedeviled Devonsville… for 300 years has not stymied the suspicion of women not toeing the norm… and things get down-right nutzo when three “modern women” all independently turn up in town for reasons of… working!! The new with new ideas schoolteacher, the new late-night lady-centric radio DJ, and the (not actually “new,” as being the “only”) EPA loner testing the town’s lake water all bringing the paranoia of the past to a boiling present!! But: Be they witches reincarnated or be they really real women?? Be they both, perhaps?? And what is Devonsville’s town-doc and resident historian – dementedly realized by Donald Pleasence!! – doing, pulling putrid worms from pustule’d pits on his arms?!!?

After bedeviling the Deuce with his supernatural box-office sensation THE BOOGEY MAN, Ulli Lommel popped back up on the block – albeit briefly – with this (the last of FOUR features he helmed in 1983!!) wacked-out witchy whatsit, co-written with its lead-actress and his then-wife (and Standard Oil heiress/Pratt Institute founding family member) collaboratory conspirator, the swoony loony Suzanna Love… and love her you will!! As certainly did the lucky loafers at the Anco Theatre – aka, the grindiest of the grindhouses – when they glimpsed her grandeur gracing the screen during the diminutive duration of the lone December 2nd ONE WEEKEND RUN!! And yet… THE DEVONSVILLE TERROR still – as always – lived in the lore and legend and hearts of The Deuce!
