Norma Rae
Midnite weekend screenings happen on Friday & Saturday nights (meaning arrive on Friday and/or Saturday night by 11:45pm for seating, the movie starts after midnite)!
Ahead of International Women's Day, Nitehawk is partnering with The Broad Room, a nonprofit group empowering young women to take political action, for a fundraiser screening of NORMA RAE. A portion of ticket sales as well as the Justice & Mercy drink special will go to the organization to help ensure their trainings, events, and weekly action letters are free to the public. Intro by Co-founder Elana Leopold and member Bailey Usdin.
Director: Martin Ritt Run Time: 114 min. Format: DCP Rating: PG Release Year: 1979
Starring: Sally Field, Beau Bridges, Ron Leibman, Barbara Baxley
Like a lot of her family before her, Norma Rae (Sally Field) works at the local textile mill, where the pay is hardly commensurate with the long hours and lousy working conditions. But after hearing a rousing speech by labor activist Reuben (Ron Leibman), Norma is inspired to rally her fellow workers behind the cause of unionism. Her decision rankles her family, especially her fiancé, Sonny (Beau Bridges), and provokes no shortage of contempt from her employers.
Join the women of The Broad Room in Lo-Res following the screening to learn more about the organization.
