Night Owl Video is proud to present our next Video Store Gem: Rocky Morton & Annabel Jankel’s Super Mario Bros!

Starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo as Mario Mario and Luigi Mario, this whacked out cult classic was the very first screen adaptation of a video game. Instead of a literal adaptation, Morton & Jankel took the bright and colorful Nintendo games and turned it into dystopian nightmare with shades of Blade Runner and Brazil. Dennis Hopper hams it up in a supporting role with his King Koopa, a tyrannical dictator that has more in common with Idi Amin than the bright orange turtle king from the games.

Recalling a time when there were chances being taken on IP and adaptations, Super Mario Bros. is a sight to behold in the cold light of 2026. Join us for this screening, on a glorious 35mm print and with an introduction and pre-screening raffle of original merch by Night Owl Video’s Aaron Hamel. Remember, Trust the Fungus!!
